Dog owners across the United States are being urged to dispose of certain brands of dog treats after a recall was issued over concerns of potential Salmonella contamination. The recall, affecting products distributed in 19 states, has raised alarms about the safety of popular treats given to pets.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced that two widely recognized dog treat brands—Hollywood Feed Carolina Made Chicken Chips and Gaines Family Farmstead Chicken Chips—are being recalled due to potential Salmonella contamination. Why Is Salmonella a Concern?
Salmonella contamination is a serious health risk for both pets and humans. In pets, it can cause symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and in severe cases, it can be fatal, especially for animals with pre-existing health conditions. Additionally, humans who handle contaminated treats or fail to wash their hands properly after handling them could also be at risk of illness.
What Should Pet Owners Do?
If you have purchased these products, the FDA advises you to immediately stop feeding them to your pet and safely dispose of them. It is recommended to wrap the treats in plastic to avoid contamination. Additionally, both companies involved are offering refunds for the recalled products, provided you submit a proof of purchase.
What to Do If You’re Concerned About Your Pet’s Health?
If you suspect that your pet has consumed the affected treats, it’s important to monitor them for symptoms of Salmonella infection. If any symptoms arise, or if you are concerned about your pet’s health, consult your veterinarian immediately.
As pet owners, our responsibility is to ensure the safety and well-being of our furry companions. By taking immediate action and disposing of the recalled treats, we can help protect our pets from potential harm.
