The name “Luna” continues to reign as the most popular dog name in the Netherlands for 2024, according to new statistics released by Figo Pet Insurance.
For male dogs, the name “Max” leads the pack, with “Moos” and “Ollie” closely trailing behind. On the female side, Luna has held its dominance for nearly a decade, with other popular names including “Bella,” “Nala,” and “Pip.”
Cultural influences, particularly from film and television, remain a strong driving force behind dog naming trends. Names like “Nala” and “Simba” from The Lion King continue to be favored, alongside others inspired by animated classics such as “Balou” from The Jungle Book and “Belle” from Beauty and the Beast.
In addition to traditional names, a growing trend of humorous and unique monikers has emerged, with owners choosing unconventional options like “Trumpie,” “Papi Chulo,” and “Slipper.”
International influences are also on the rise, with English and French names gaining traction. Popular choices include “Teddy,” “Charlie,” and “Milo,” while French names such as “Coco” and “Loulou” have also seen a surge in popularity among Dutch pet owners.
