In a heartwarming display of maternal care, a deaf pit bull named Evie has taken on the role of foster mother to an orphaned baby goat at a farm in Arizona. The story began when a local farmer heard about the abandoned newborn goat on a neighboring property. Recognizing that he and his wife had the necessary resources to help, including a special dog with an instinctive nurturing nature, they decided to step in.
Evie, a gentle and loving pit bull, is known for her affectionate nature toward both people and animals. Although she was born deaf, Evie doesn’t let her disability hinder her daily activities. She roams the farm with ease, and when the opportunity arose to care for the helpless goat, she instantly bonded with her new charge.
The farmer explained on social media that their goal was for one of their female dogs to adopt the orphaned goat, and Evie stepped up immediately. “Evie did right away,” the farmer wrote in a post, sharing footage of the pit bull happily wagging her tail and cuddling with the goat. Now, the two are inseparable, with the goat spending his days by Evie’s side.
Evie’s deafness, a common trait in white dogs due to genetic factors, does not prevent her from being an excellent caregiver. While she cannot hear the faint bleats of the goat, she understands him through sign language and hand gestures, even from the farmer’s young child. Her maternal instincts are sharp, and she instinctively knows how to care for the young goat, who now enjoys a warm and loving home.
Though the goat is still bottle-fed and will require milk for a couple of months before transitioning to solid food, he is adjusting well to life on the farm. With Evie by his side, he is learning the ropes of farm life and is sure to grow up in an environment full of love and care.
The heartwarming connection between Evie and the orphaned goat has touched many on social media, with users commenting on the pure love animals can show for one another across species. “She’s not the stepmom, she’s the mom who stepped up,” one comment read, while others marveled at how animals can offer compassion where humans often fail.
