Senior Dog, 15, Proves There’s No Age Limit on ‘Zoomies’

by Lisa

A 15-year-old chocolate Labrador from Wales has captured hearts worldwide, showing that age is no barrier to playfulness and energy. Riley, who is 90% blind and 90% deaf, was filmed racing around his home in a joyful display of “zoomies” – a term used to describe dogs’ burst of exuberant, frenetic activity.

Despite his age and disabilities, Riley continues to enjoy life to the fullest, as evidenced in a heartwarming TikTok video shared by his owner, Joshua Taylor. “He still enjoys his walks and has daily, if not hourly, zoomies – with plenty of naps in between,” Taylor shared. “We love his daily zoomies because they show he’s still a puppy at heart.”

Zoomies, scientifically known as Frenetic Random Activity Periods (FRAPs), are sudden bursts of high energy in pets, commonly seen in puppies but also occurring in older dogs. These spontaneous bursts often involve running in circles or dashing around the house, typically as a way to release excess energy.

“It’s the equivalent of being 105 years old. Amazing little pooch,” one TikToker remarked. Others called Riley “a handsome gentleman” and praised his infectious energy.

Taylor has been overwhelmed by the positive response, with many people sharing how Riley’s playful moment brought back memories of their own dogs. “The reaction has been incredible,” Taylor said. “People are sharing stories of their own elderly dogs doing zoomies, or remembering their pets who were full of life even in old age.”

Riley’s joyful moment serves as a reminder that no matter their age or limitations, pets continue to bring happiness, vitality, and love to our lives.
