A 14-year-old Jack Russell Terrier from Jersey has defied the odds by surviving her fourth cancer diagnosis, leaving her owners overjoyed and astounded.
Jessie, who has been battling the disease for seven years, was treated at New Era Vets in St. Helier with a new drug called Palladia. After undergoing treatment, the dog was given the all-clear, much to the relief of her owners, Paul and Lola Butel.
A Remarkable Journey
Jessie’s journey began when she was first diagnosed with cancer seven years ago. Initially, the prognosis was grim, and there was even a fear that Jessie might need to have a leg amputated. Paul Butel described the diagnosis as “absolutely devastating,” as the couple didn’t believe their beloved pet would survive.
However, Jessie proved to be a fighter, and with each diagnosis, she continued to bounce back. Her owners, who have been documenting her journey on a Facebook page with over 700 followers, are incredibly grateful for the new treatment options that have helped Jessie thrive.
The Role of Health and Luck
Lola Butel believes that Jessie’s strong health, due to her breed, may have played a role in her recovery. “Jack Russell Terriers are quite fit and strong little dogs,” she explained. But she also acknowledged that they had been “really, really lucky” that Jessie kept defying the odds and surviving each battle with cancer.
The Butels are thrilled to have their resilient companion by their side and feel fortunate to have had access to the innovative treatment that has allowed Jessie to continue living a full and joyful life.
