Locally Famous Dog Becomes Hero After Rescuing Owner

by Lisa

A Kitchener corgi, famous for his social media following, is being hailed as a hero after a routine morning walk turned into a life-threatening accident for his owner.

Waldo the Corgi has garnered over 13,000 followers on social media, and he recently showed why he’s a local favorite. On December 28, Jess Parker, Waldo’s owner, slipped on a muddy part of the sidewalk, causing a severe injury.

“I heard and felt this loud crack, I knew immediately something had happened. I looked at my foot and it was facing the wrong direction and no longer attached to my leg,” Parker recounted in an interview with CityNews Kitchener.

Without a cell phone to call for help, Parker began yelling. In response, Waldo sprang into action. The nine-year-old corgi gave Parker a quick kiss before running off. At first, Parker was concerned for Waldo’s safety, especially with traffic nearby.

But Waldo’s instincts kicked in. He found a stranger about to get into their car and tugged at the stranger’s pant leg. The stranger, noticing Parker, walked over to her as Waldo led the way with barks. The stranger called for an ambulance, and then Waldo ran off again.

“I’m thinking, ‘Where’s my dog, is he okay? I hope he doesn’t get hit by a car.’ Sure enough, moments later, he comes around the fence with my landlord and comes back and kisses my face again,” Parker said.

Parker believes Waldo knew where to go since they had passed her landlord earlier on the walk, greeting him as they often do. “It’s nice to know when something happens, he’s got my back,” Parker added.

After being taken to a local hospital, Parker underwent surgery for her broken foot. Doctors were initially concerned that the lack of blood flow to her foot could have resulted in the loss of the foot. However, thanks to Waldo’s quick thinking, help arrived just in time.

Parker will now be resting at home, recovering from surgery alongside her husband, cat, and, of course, her furry hero. “He did the exact right thing, which was incredible,” she said, reflecting on the day.

Waldo’s efforts didn’t come as too much of a surprise, as he’s known for being a social and smart dog. The corgi, who’s also known for wearing lederhosen during Oktoberfest celebrations, has earned a loyal local following. “He’s not just my dog, he’s the community’s dog,” said Parker.

While the accident was unexpected, Parker remains grateful for her dog’s unwavering loyalty and heroism.
