A 2-year-old German Shepherd in Ohio is recovering after being found abandoned in a truck for nearly a week following its owner’s arrest. The incident took place in Boardman, Ohio, where police discovered the dog in dire condition inside a snow-covered vehicle.
According to WKBN, Brandon Thomas, the dog’s owner, was arrested last week, but the police were unaware that his dog was left behind in the truck at the time. When officers were responding to the situation, they noticed the truck, covered in snow, and heard barking from inside. The police broke a passenger window to gain access to the vehicle and rescue the dog.
The Animal Charity of Ohio in Mahoning County took the German Shepherd to their facility for care, where they reported that the animal was severely dehydrated, cold, and emaciated due to lack of food. Despite these conditions, the dog is now being monitored and is reportedly doing better after receiving proper medical attention.
Authorities also learned that Thomas’ wife had no knowledge of the dog’s presence, as she was unaware her husband even owned one. The situation has drawn attention to the responsibilities of pet ownership and the importance of ensuring animals’ welfare, even when their owners are absent.
