In response to the tragic hit-and-run death of a dog last Thursday, Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen stood alongside concerned citizens to file a police report on January 19, 2025. The Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak leader, accompanied by his special assistant, Michael Kong Feng Nian, visited the Sungai Maong police station to formally support those affected by the incident.
The event gained widespread attention after CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media. The distressing video captured a vehicle striking the dog at Lorong Stampin 7 around 5:40 p.m. on January 16, with the animal succumbing to injuries shortly afterward. A second video, lasting eight seconds, further detailed the vehicle leaving the scene immediately following the collision.
Chong expressed his deep concern for the senseless act, noting that several members of the public who had viewed the footage were compelled to take action. He urged the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation, stating, “We hope the police will act swiftly to bring justice for the dog.”
As the MP for Padungan, Chong emphasized the importance of community support in ensuring accountability, pledging to continue advocating for justice in this heart-wrenching case.
