Rescue Dog Jake Becomes Hero After Saving Walker’s Life

by Lisa

A six-year-old rescue Husky, Jake, has been hailed a hero after he saved his dog walker’s life with his quick thinking. The rescue dog, who was adopted from Dogs Trust in January 2022, showcased his bravery while staying at boarding kennels during his family’s holiday.

Jake had been found straying in Co. Offaly in late 2021 and spent a few months under the care of Dogs Trust before being welcomed into his new home. His family, who immediately fell in love with his goofy and affectionate personality, described him as “an attention-loving bundle of joy” and a dog capable of brightening any room.

The heroic act occurred when Jake’s dog walker suddenly collapsed from dizziness during their walk. While his walker lost consciousness, Jake remained by her side, barking persistently until help arrived. Thanks to his actions, the walker was rushed to the hospital, where she stayed for over a week to recover.

Jake’s family confirmed that he had quickly settled into his new life, and the Husky’s calm, protective nature brought peace to everyone he encountered. His story of courage has touched many, with his family and Dogs Trust both celebrating his transformation from a rescue to a rescuer.

In addition to Jake’s story, Dogs Trust is advocating for better dog welfare policies. The charity has been pushing for the appointment of a Junior Minister to oversee dog welfare issues, calling on the government to consolidate all dog welfare policies into one department. They are urging people to support their petition for the cause.

Suzie Carley, Executive Director of Dogs Trust Ireland, said: “Jake’s heartwarming story is a perfect way to brighten up Blue Monday, and it’s a reminder of the importance of second chances. It’s incredible to see him thrive in a loving home and take on the role of rescuer himself.”
