A senior Staffordshire bull terrier’s playful escape attempts are bringing joy and a few tears to TikTok viewers, as her owner embraces her spirited nature despite her advancing age.
Miley, now 16½ years old, earned the nickname “escape artist” in her younger years for her relentless pursuit of freedom. Her owner, who shares their journey on TikTok under the handle @smileymileystaffy, explained that Miley’s escape attempts were once a way for her to seek attention while they were away at work. Even after working from home, Miley’s love for breaking free didn’t wane.
Now, in her senior years, Miley’s idea of escaping has taken on a lighter, more playful tone. Her owner recently shared a heartwarming video showing Miley waddling down the sidewalk as fast as her aging legs would carry her. To keep that adventurous spirit alive, Miley’s owner intentionally leaves the gate open, allowing the dog to “escape” for fun. Miley believes she’s still the skilled escape artist she once was, and her toddler sibling enjoys chasing after her.
The video also showcases Miley’s owner strolling behind her with a beach trolley, which was a Christmas gift specifically for Miley to make her senior walks more comfortable. The trolley allows Miley to explore without overexerting her joints, which, according to her vet, are in excellent condition with no signs of arthritis. While Miley sometimes seems to show signs of dementia, her owner remains focused on letting her enjoy these moments of freedom.
