The 2025 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show officially kicked off on Monday, marking the first day of judging for the coveted Best in Show title. Held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York, this prestigious event—the second-oldest continuously held sporting event in the U.S.—began with the evaluation of individual breeds.
Dogs were assessed based on a detailed standard, taking into account key traits such as height, weight, coat type, color, and other physical characteristics. The top 201 dogs from the breed judging will advance to the Best in Group competitions, where winners from each group—Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting, and Herding—will compete for the opportunity to vie for Best in Show.
Among Monday’s standout competitors, Bourbon the Whippet took center stage, securing a win in the Hound Group. The competition continues on Tuesday, with dogs representing the remaining Sporting, Working, and Terrier Groups being selected for their respective groups.
The show will culminate in the highly anticipated Best in Show competition, where one dog will be crowned the winner of this iconic event.
