Scrim, a white Terrier from New Orleans who has become a local legend for his multiple escapes, has been rescued again after months of evading capture. Scrim, who had been missing since November after leaping out of a second-story window, was found on February 11, 2025, by a member of the nonprofit group Trap Dat Cat, with assistance from Zeus’ Rescues.
Michelle Cheramie, founder of Zeus’ Rescues, had been caring for Scrim when he made his dramatic escape. Cheramie shared Scrim’s remarkable journey on social media, describing how he managed to survive in various parts of New Orleans. After jumping out of the window in November, Scrim began a months-long adventure across the city. He navigated from Uptown to Mid-City, spent Christmas lost in Old Metairie, reappeared in Harrahan, and eventually made it back to Mid-City. Along the way, he survived intense thunderstorms, New Year’s fireworks, and even made it through the start of Mardi Gras season and the Super Bowl.
Scrim’s escape attempts have garnered much attention in New Orleans, with local residents helping track his movements and report sightings. A map was even created to monitor his whereabouts, and food stations and trail cameras were set up by the community and animal groups to aid in his capture. Scrim’s escapes, as well as his resilience, led to him becoming something of a viral sensation in the city.
When Scrim was found again, he was taken for a veterinary checkup. Despite surviving numerous dangers, he was found to be in good health, although he had tapeworms and intestinal parasites. Cheramie reported that Scrim is recovering well and has a new home lined up with plenty of outdoor space and other dogs to help him socialize once he is fully healed.
Scrim’s story has become a symbol of perseverance, and his incredible survival in the face of so many challenges has inspired many in the New Orleans community. Cheramie, who first saved Scrim in early 2024, expressed her admiration for the dog’s resilience. “He’s some special dog,” she said, reflecting on the harrowing experiences Scrim has endured.
