by Lisa

A golden retriever, found wandering alone in New Westminster, was successfully reunited with its owners thanks to a helpful stranger and the quick response of local police.

On February 17, around 3 p.m., a concerned person spotted the dog near the 400-block of 11th Street and immediately contacted the New Westminster Police Department for assistance. The dog, described as a senior, was brought into the care of New Westminster Animal Services.

Sgt. Andrew Leaver, a media relations officer for the New Westminster Police Department, expressed his happiness over the reunion, stating, “Anytime we can reunite a man’s best friend with their owner, it’s a good day.”

The dog did not have any identifying tags, tattoos, or microchips. Sgt. Leaver encouraged pet owners to use these identification methods to help prevent situations like this in the future.
