Woody, a Shih Tzu cross Poodle, recently celebrated his 11th birthday at one of the Dogs Trust rehoming centres in Shoreham, West Sussex, making him one of Britain’s most forgotten dogs. He has spent the majority of his life in kennels, after arriving at the centre in September 2015. His owners initially struggled with some of his behavioral issues, and despite years of training and care, Woody remains in the shelter, often overlooked due to medical conditions requiring regular medication.
Michaela Wells, the assistant manager at the Shoreham centre, expressed the centre’s desire to find Woody a permanent home, saying, “He deserves to spend his next birthday on a cosy sofa, not in a kennel.”
Woody has undergone extensive training and is described as clever, playful, and full of personality. The staff have worked tirelessly to ensure his birthday doesn’t go uncelebrated, showering him with birthday cards, toys, and gifts, especially in recognition of his new role as a “sponsor dog.” While he is adored by the team, they are hopeful that someone will come forward to provide him with the home he deserves.
“Woody is one of a kind,” said staff at the centre, highlighting his intelligence and unique charm. They are eager to connect with potential adopters and explain how Woody’s health can be managed at home.
After a decade of waiting, the team at Dogs Trust believes the right person is out there for Woody, and they remain determined to find him a forever home.
