Renter’s Unexpected Discovery Leads to Stray Dog’s Dramatic Rescue from Well

by Lisa

In a heartwarming twist of fate, an American renter in Longview, Texas, became the unlikely hero for a stray dog trapped in a well under his house. The man, who has chosen to remain anonymous, was relaxing in his rental home when he began hearing faint barking. Initially thinking the sound was coming from outside, he soon realized it was emanating from beneath his floorboards.

After calling animal control, Officer Bobby Jumper arrived to investigate, and the mystery was soon solved—there was a dog trapped nearly four meters down in an abandoned well under the house. To the renter’s surprise, he wasn’t even aware of the well’s existence.

Jumper, who was “very shocked” by the situation, turned to the local fire brigade for assistance. Together, the teams worked tirelessly to rescue the pup, which involved a combination of tools, equipment, and makeshift slings to safely hoist the dog from the depths of the well. The rescue took three hours, and at one point, the team considered tearing up the floorboards, but they eventually found a way to reach the dog without causing any damage.

Despite being trapped for what could have been several days without food or water, the Basset hound mix pup, later named Timmy after the character from Lassie who famously fell down a well, emerged from the ordeal physically unscathed but understandably hungry and thirsty. Unable to find an owner, Timmy was confirmed to be a stray and taken to the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center.

The center later shared the incredible rescue on social media, praising the bravery and teamwork of the firefighters and animal control officers. The post read, “We witnessed a heartwarming tale of bravery and kindness that we just had to share.” It went on to express gratitude to everyone involved, highlighting the powerful bond between humans and animals, and how communities come together to help in times of need. After his rescue, Timmy was adopted into a loving home, bringing the story to a happy and hopeful conclusion.
