Greenmount: Dog Rescued by Firefighters After Getting Head Wedged

by Lisa

In a heartwarming rescue, a dog named Cora, a goldendoodle, was saved by firefighters after getting her head wedged between two stone structures. The incident occurred after Cora and her owner completed the East Lancashire Long Distance Walkers’ Two Crosses challenge on Sunday, March 9. This annual walking event sees participants and their dogs covering distances of 18 to 25 miles, taking in the scenic views of Holcombe and Affetside countryside.

Shortly after completing the challenge, Cora found herself in a difficult situation when her head became “firmly stuck” between a stone pillar and a stone wall at the Greenmount Old School Community Centre.

Emergency services were called at 4:45 pm, and firefighters from Green Watch at Bury Fire Station quickly responded. The team carefully used a hammer and chisel to remove two layers of stone, freeing Cora in just 10 minutes. Remarkably, the rescue operation was carried out swiftly and safely, with no injuries reported to the dog.

WM Connell from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service praised the “swift and skillful actions” of the firefighters involved in the successful rescue. Cora’s owner must have been relieved to see their furry companion safe and sound after the tense moment.
