Effective April 1, the Wayne County Dog Shelter will implement a fee increase for dog adoptions, raising the cost from $75 to $98. The adjustment aims to help offset the rising expenses associated with veterinary care and supplies, ensuring the shelter can continue to provide high-quality care for its animals.
Shelter Director and Dog Warden, Katelyn Lehman, emphasized that the fee increase is necessary to maintain the shelter’s standard of care. “With the rising costs of veterinary care and supplies, this small increase allows us to maintain the standard of care that every dog deserves,” said Lehman.
Each dog adopted from the shelter receives comprehensive medical care, which includes:
- DAPPV + Lepto vaccine (protecting against Distemper, Adenovirus, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, and Parainfluenza)
- Bordetella vaccine
- Rabies vaccine
- Flea treatment
- Heartworm test and prevention
In addition, all dogs are microchipped, licensed, and go home with a leash, collar, and a bag of goodies to help them adjust to their new environment.
This increase in adoption fees is part of the shelter’s continued effort to provide vital veterinary care and support its mission of saving and rehoming dogs in need.
“The Wayne County Dog Shelter appreciates the community’s ongoing support and invites potential adopters to visit and meet the wonderful dogs waiting for a second chance,” Lehman added.
The Wayne County Dog Shelter is located at 5694 Burbank Road, Wooster.
