A Boston man is recovering after being bitten while intervening in a dog fight at Peter’s Park in the South End on Wednesday morning.
David Goldman was at the park with his dog, Cosmo, when the two dogs became involved in a confrontation. According to Goldman, when he stepped in to break up the fight, the other dog turned on him, biting his hand.
The bite resulted in a serious injury, requiring several stitches. Fortunately, Goldman’s dog, Cosmo, was unharmed in the incident.
Goldman briefly spoke with the other dog’s owner after the attack. He recounted the conversation, saying, “She told me she had been pressing the button on a remote shock collar, but the dog wouldn’t stop.” Goldman noted that the owner did not offer an apology. Due to the severity of his injury, Goldman quickly left the scene to seek medical attention.
In a Facebook post about the attack, Goldman shared his concerns, including the possibility of rabies exposure, as he awaited confirmation from the other dog’s owner regarding its rabies vaccinations. If the dog was not up to date on its shots, Goldman would have to undergo the painful rabies vaccine series.
The other dog’s owner has since reached out to Goldman, but it remains unclear whether the vaccination status has been confirmed.
