A dog found abandoned in Meriden this weekend has raised concerns after being discovered malnourished and recently having given birth.
Meriden Animal Control responded to a call Sunday after teenagers spotted the dog, named Petals, roaming near Lincoln Plaza on West Main Street. Animal control officials noted that Petals appeared severely underweight and showed signs of recent pregnancy.
They believe the dog’s puppies were taken away from her at a very young age, as they are likely newborns. “If the puppies are still alive, they are far too young to be separated from their mother,” said a representative from Animal Control.
Petals, a young hound mix, was found without a collar or microchip, making it difficult to trace her previous owners. Meriden Animal Control-Saving Paws is currently seeking information on Petals’ past and the whereabouts of her puppies.
