Warwickshire Police are mourning the loss of Police Dog (PD) Kuga, a German Shepherd who passed away after sustaining an injury while saving a missing person’s life. PD Kuga, who had been part of the force’s K9 unit, injured his paw during the search for a vulnerable, severely injured individual in December.
The injury led to the discovery of a condition that caused PD Kuga chronic pain. Despite numerous treatments, veterinary advice ultimately led to the difficult decision to have him put to sleep.
PD Kuga’s handler, Lucy, paid tribute to her loyal partner, saying, “He was brave, strong, and loyal. With him by your side, you knew everything was going to be OK.” She added, “PD Kuga was a force to be reckoned with, and you usually heard him before you saw him.”
PD Kuga’s bravery and dedication to his role in helping others have left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the community he served.
