A Jack Russell named Pepper found herself on an unexpected adventure to Birmingham after hopping into the back of an Amazon delivery van while it was parked outside her home in Leominster, Herefordshire.
The curious dog managed to sneak into the van on Saturday while the delivery driver was taking pictures to confirm a package drop-off. It wasn’t until the following morning that the driver discovered Pepper inside the van, having spent the night in transit on a 67-mile journey to Birmingham.
Caroline Doyle, Pepper’s owner, was initially frantic when the dog went missing after the door to their home was accidentally left open. She spent a sleepless night, unsure of her pet’s whereabouts, fearing Pepper might have gotten out of the van during its journey. It wasn’t until the next morning that she received a call informing her that Pepper had been found and was still in the van, safe and sound.
Through CCTV footage, the family pieced together the dog’s adventure and took to social media for help. A post about the missing dog quickly gained traction, and soon after, the delivery driver’s daughter reached out, having seen the post and recognized the van in the footage. Caroline’s daughter was in tears when she called her mother to share the good news.
When Pepper returned home, she was understandably tired from the long trip and a bit thirsty, but the driver had ensured she was given water. However, Caroline explained that Pepper had missed two meals during her unscheduled journey. Grateful for the driver’s actions, Caroline took the opportunity to email Amazon to commend the driver for his care and attention, ensuring they knew how well he handled the situation.
The experience, though stressful for the family, ended on a positive note thanks to the power of social media and the quick-thinking actions of the delivery driver.
