The Kedah state government has announced plans to introduce stricter regulations on the ownership of aggressive dog breeds in residential areas after a recent incident involving two Rottweilers. The attack, which occurred last Tuesday in Taman Desa Bidara, Kuala Ketil, Baling, left five people injured.
Mansor Zakaria, the state’s Housing, Local Government, and Health Committee chairman, stated that the move comes after the Rottweilers allegedly escaped from their cage and attacked residents. Following discussions with the dogs’ owner, the animals were surrendered to the Veterinary Office, where they were euthanized.
“These aggressive breeds are not suitable for residential areas,” Mansor emphasized. “This is the second attack of its kind, and this time five victims were involved—this is a very serious issue.”
The victims, who sustained severe injuries, are currently receiving treatment in both public and private hospitals. Some have undergone surgeries due to the extent of their wounds, though all are reported to be in stable condition. In addition to physical injuries, the victims are also dealing with emotional trauma.
Mansor visited the victims and reassured the public that the government would take appropriate measures. “We are committed to drafting guidelines that will prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future,” he said.
The Kedah Veterinary Services Department confirmed that both Rottweilers were put down yesterday following the attack. The new guidelines are expected to restrict the presence of aggressive dog breeds in residential zones to ensure the safety of the public.
