A troubling trend has emerged among dog owners in Brisbane, sparking outrage in the local community. Several dog walkers have been spotted leaving neatly bagged dog waste along popular trails, a practice many consider a form of laziness and disrespect for the environment.
A frustrated local took to Reddit to highlight the issue, sharing a photo of four dog poop bags discarded along the JC Slaughter Falls trail. The user expressed their disbelief at the behavior, questioning why dog owners would go to the trouble of bagging their pets’ waste only to abandon the bags in nature.
“Is this why we can’t have nice things?” the Reddit user wrote. “I took my dogs on a quick loop around JC Slaughter Falls. We didn’t have any issues, but we ended up picking up after four other dogs, whose owners had bagged the waste and left it by the trail.”
The post quickly garnered attention, with many commenters expressing their frustration at what they described as a bizarre form of laziness. “Bagging it and leaving it in the bush is even worse than just leaving it. At least the waste would decompose eventually,” one person noted.
Others voiced concern about the environmental impact of the plastic bags used, which do not break down easily. “Those bags don’t even decompose that well,” commented another Reddit user.
The issue appears to be part of a larger pattern of littering in Brisbane. One commenter shared their experience at a local concert venue, where they observed people discarding trash despite the availability of bins nearby. “People have no respect,” they lamented.
The trend is leaving many dog owners and community members frustrated, calling for more accountability and respect for public spaces. As one Reddit user put it, “If you can’t carry a bag of dog waste until you find a bin, you shouldn’t be a dog owner.”
