Dog Survives Machete Attack, Renamed Danny Trejo After Actor

by Lisa

A 1-year-old English Bulldog, who was brutally attacked with a machete in Lowell, Massachusetts, is on the road to recovery after an incredibly traumatic experience. The dog, initially brought into the Lowell Humane Society with severe injuries, has since been renamed “Danny Trejo,” after the actor famous for his role in the film Machete, as a way to honor his resilience.

The Attack and Recovery

The incident occurred on March 31, in a public housing building on Summer Street. According to reports, Jeremy Collazo, a 32-year-old homeless man, allegedly struck the dog in the head with a machete, leaving the dog bloodied and suffering from a slight skull fracture. Thankfully, the injury did not penetrate deeper into the skull, and the dog received immediate treatment at a local animal hospital.

A Symbolic Name Change

The dog’s original name was “Sticks,” but the Lowell Humane Society decided to rename him in honor of the actor Danny Trejo, whose fame includes starring in the movie Machete. The name is meant to reflect the dog’s story and survival, though the staff wanted to keep it subtle. “We wanted to link him to his story, but we didn’t want to be too on the nose,” explained Arnott.

Justice and Legal Proceedings

Jeremy Collazo has been charged with animal cruelty and is being held without bail. He reportedly claimed the dog had bitten him days before the attack, though this is still under investigation. The dog will remain at the Lowell Humane Society until the investigation concludes, after which he will be placed up for adoption.

A New Beginning

Despite the trauma he’s endured, Danny Trejo is showing remarkable strength, embodying both physical and emotional recovery. His story not only highlights the resilience of animals but also the dedication of those who work tirelessly to rescue and rehabilitate abused pets. As Danny Trejo waits for his new forever home, his journey is a testament to the strength of the spirit and the power of a second chance.
