The long-awaited vision of a centrally located dog park in the city is finally becoming a reality, as demolition work begins at the Ridge School property.
On Friday morning, a crowd of supporters, including board members of the Friends of BG Dog Parks and several eager dogs, gathered to watch as crews from Toledo Fence began taking down the old chain-link fence that once surrounded the baseball field. The removal is the first step in transforming the area into the Bowling Green Dog Park at Ridge.
Jo Ascunce, a passionate advocate for the park, expressed her excitement as she watched the progress: “I’m thrilled—and relieved—to see this day finally arrive. We are all so excited to see this dream starting to come true.”
In just a few weeks, the site will be enclosed by a sleek, powder-coated black fence, creating dedicated spaces for both large and small dogs. The new park will provide a safe and welcoming environment for dogs and their owners to enjoy.
The Friends of BG Dog Parks group is also planning a fundraising campaign to support the project, with opportunities to sponsor benches and trees for the park. To learn more or contribute, follow the group on Facebook and Instagram.
