A tragic incident unfolded in the hamlet of San Pietro, Cava de’ Tirreni, where a heroic act by a small dog cost him his life. The dog’s name was Fiocco, a Maltese, who was killed while protecting a 6-year-old child from an attacking German Shepherd. The incident has sparked outrage and concern in the local community, and the slogan ‘Justice for Fiocco’ is gaining traction, as the grieving family seeks justice for their beloved pet.
The incident occurred when a local German Shepherd, having escaped its owner’s control, wandered onto the private property of the Maltese’s owners. The 6-year-old child was playing with Fiocco in the garden when the large dog charged toward him. Fiocco immediately leaped into action, defending the child, but tragically became the German Shepherd’s victim, suffering fatal injuries.
“I don’t know what would have happened if Fiocco hadn’t intervened like a hero,” said the owner of the deceased dog. “It’s dangerous, and the authorities must take action.” The attack left both the child and the family’s other dog deeply traumatized by the frightening event and the loss of Fiocco.
The owners, who have a deep love for animals and work with them professionally, expressed their disbelief at the incident. “What happened to Fiocco is absurd and dangerous for other dogs and people. This could have been far worse,” they added. The family now fears for the safety of others and believes that stricter measures must be implemented to prevent such attacks from happening again.
