A Midtown Memphis woman is urgently searching for her 15-year-old Cockapoo, Coby, who went missing after a police intervention during a domestic disturbance at her home.
Tiffany Tyler, who was arrested during the April 14 incident on Nelson Avenue, says that while she was detained, two of her dogs were taken by family and friends. However, she believes that a woman, presumed to be a neighbor, walked away with Coby. According to Tyler, the woman may have been under the impression that the dog was being given away or that he would be euthanized.
“I guess they assumed she was one of my neighbors because they didn’t want my dogs to be euthanized. This is the story I heard,” Tyler explained. “She said, ‘I’ll take him,’ but I just needed someone to temporarily care for my pets.”
Tyler is desperate to find Coby, who is not only battling cancer but is also losing his eyesight. She said the dog needs ongoing medication and is worried that he could be in pain without the necessary care.
“I don’t know how much time he has, and I just want him back,” Tyler said tearfully. “That’s my fur baby, you know? I love all my pets. I want him back because I know he’s in pain, and I’m really worried.”
Coby has been missing for over two weeks and was last seen near Nelson and Barksdale. Tyler mentioned that the dog is microchipped and was wearing a turquoise collar with a current name tag when he disappeared. She described him as having hazy green eyes, walking stiffly, and having only a few teeth remaining.
In an effort to find him, Tyler has posted flyers, walked door-to-door in her neighborhood, and is offering a $100 reward for information leading to Coby’s return.
“Please, if you have my pet in the Cooper-Young area, please bring him back,” Tyler pleaded. “She must be from around here, as she walked up.”
Tyler, who is facing charges of aggravated assault and domestic assault, maintains she was acting in self-defense during the incident. WREG has reached out to the Memphis Police Department for further information about the whereabouts of the dog and is awaiting a response.
