A heartwarming reunion took place on April 21 as 2-year-old Bodin Allen was reunited with Buford, the Anatolian Pyrenees who played a key role in finding the toddler after he went missing in northern Arizona.
On April 14, Bodin wandered away from his home in Seligman, triggering a massive search by law enforcement officers and search-and-rescue teams. However, it was Buford, the ranch dog, who discovered the missing boy 7 miles from his home, guiding him to safety after he had spent the night alone under a tree.
Buford’s owner, Scottie Dunton, helped bring the boy safely back to his family after he spotted the two of them wandering on his property.
In recognition of Buford’s heroism, the dog was honored in a special ceremony, receiving an honorary search-and-rescue certificate and a rescue vest. Additionally, Yavapai County deputies presented Bodin with a challenge coin for his bravery during the ordeal.
The toddler had traveled through rugged, rural terrain but fortunately remained uninjured, despite encountering wildlife during the search.
Buford’s swift actions and protective instincts, along with Dunton’s quick response, were instrumental in ensuring the safe return of Bodin to his family. Buford’s certificate praised the dog’s vigilance and heroism, acknowledging his exemplary community service.
