by Lisa

Dog Day, KLM honoured the remarkable service dogs in its fleet. The Holland America Line celebrated the invaluable contributions of these animals, which enhance the lives of the people they assist.

The cruise line strictly enforces its policy that only certified service animals trained to support individuals with disabilities are permitted on their voyages, elevating the importance of these dogs. Holland America’s 11-vessel fleet is graced by Joska, a distinguished black Labrador retriever and an honorable companion.

As Joska approaches retirement at the age of 11, her legacy lives on with the introduction of her successor, Wylou. While Wylou carries out his duties as a service dog, Joska will continue sailing alongside her family, assisting her parents as their service dog. Joska and Wylou work together to ensure their human parents’ safety and enjoyment throughout their voyages.

Holland America Line recognizes Joska and Wylou as a special category of cruise service animals, spreading positivity and uplifting spirits among all those on board. These devoted companions enable their owners to pursue their interests, specifically the pleasure of cruising and the thrill of exploring the world.

It is noteworthy that Holland America’s dedication goes beyond Joska and Wylou. The cruise operator caters to a range of service animals, each with specialized areas of support, highlighting its commitment to promoting inclusive and enriching travel experiences for all passengers.
