A man has been taken into custody following a distressing incident in which a dog attacked a three-year-old girl near Liverpool, according to local law enforcement authorities.
The unfortunate incident occurred in the vicinity of the Market Tavern pub in Kirkby on a Saturday, where the young child sustained facial injuries as a result of the dog bite. Although the injuries were severe, they have been described as not life-threatening by the police.
The officers promptly intervened at the scene, seizing the dog responsible for the attack. Subsequently, a 31-year-old man, believed to be the owner of the dog, was arrested on charges of affray and having a dog that was dangerously out of control.
Chief Inspector Jim Wilde of Merseyside Police expressed his deep concern over the incident, stating, “This was a horrific attack which has left a young girl receiving hospital treatment for significant injuries to her face. I want to reassure people that she is currently receiving the best possible care and treatment for her injuries at Alder Hey [children’s hospital], and we hope she makes a speedy recovery.”
In response to the situation, Chief Inspector Wilde urged witnesses and individuals with information related to the incident to come forward. He emphasized the importance of anyone who may have been in the area during the incident, including those with access to CCTV footage or dashcam recordings, to assist with the ongoing investigation.
He further added, “This case highlights in the starkest terms the potential dangers of dogs, and I would appeal to anyone with information about dangerous dogs in their area to contact us so that we can take proactive action.”
