In a remarkable turn of events, a two-year-old girl who had wandered away from her home in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula was discovered hours later in the woods, using one of her family dogs as a furry pillow. According to state police, the toddler had embarked on her adventure accompanied by two family dogs and was found safely nestled in the woods.
State police Lieutenant Mark Giannunzio shared the extraordinary story, stating that the girl had laid down and used one of the dogs as a pillow, while the other dog remained close by, keeping her safe. The heartwarming tale unfolded after troopers used drones and police dogs in the search, with local police and citizens from both Michigan and Wisconsin assisting in the effort.
The incident began when troopers from Michigan state police’s Iron Mountain post were called to a home in the Faithorn area of Menominee County around 8 pm, following reports of the girl wandering away. A concerned citizen on an ATV made the incredible discovery around midnight, finding the toddler approximately three miles from her home.
Following her rescue, the girl was examined by medical staff and appeared to be in good health. Faithorn, where the incident occurred, is an unincorporated village located east of the Wisconsin state line and approximately 60 miles southwest of Marquette, Michigan.
