In a stark reminder that no one is above the law, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, Rinku Dugga, has faced compulsory retirement from her esteemed position for alleged misuse of her authority. The controversy surrounding her began last year when she issued orders for the evacuation of a sports stadium in Delhi so that she could walk her pet dog. The Indian Government has now taken decisive action against her for this unlawful act.
As per a report by The Indian Express, Rinku Dugga, 54, and her husband, Sanjeev Khirwar, who is also an IAS officer, directed athletes to vacate the government-run Thyagaraj Stadium during their practice session. The reason cited was to make way for a walk with their pet dog. This incident led to significant consequences for the couple.
Following the incident, the Delhi Chief Secretary submitted a report to the Ministry of Home Affairs, outlining the “factual position” regarding the alleged misuse of Thyagraj Stadium’s facilities by the IAS couple. This incident sparked outrage among athletes and the public alike, prompting swift action. Rinku Dugga was transferred to Arunachal Pradesh, while her husband, Sanjeev Khirwar, who served as the Delhi Principal Secretary in the revenue department, was reassigned to Ladakh.
