A canine saga spanning over six years took an unexpected turn when a missing dog named Rose was discovered alive in Sussex. The elderly Patterdale terrier, who disappeared in March 2017, was recently spotted in Crawley Down and successfully captured by dedicated efforts.
Unfortunately, reuniting Rose with her original family proved impossible as they had relocated and were unable to provide care. Lost Dog Recovery UK South, involved in the rescue, shared that once a suitable rescue space is secured, Rose will be in search of an experienced foster caregiver.
To locate the 12-year-old dog, a camera was strategically set up, and a trap baited with a warm roast chicken was employed, leading to Rose’s safe capture. What astonished the rescuers was the revelation that Rose had gone missing six miles away in Ashurst Wood within 24 hours of being adopted in 2017.
Lost Dog Recovery UK South expressed, “Although we will never know when exactly she came to settle in Crawley Down, what we do know is that she is finally safe and now will not spend the rest of her senior years fending for herself in the cold and wet.”
The joy of finding a long-lost dog was tempered with sadness, as Rose’s journey did not culminate in a happy reunion with her original family. Nevertheless, the organization remains dedicated to ensuring Rose’s well-being and a brighter future for her senior years.
