MIAMI – Authorities have identified the individual discovered deceased in his Kendall garage, his body bearing multiple dog bites. The victim, 29-year-old Alexander A. Torres, was found by a friend who grew concerned after being unable to reach him since Sunday, according to a statement from the Miami-Dade Police.
The distressing incident unfolded at Torres’ residence near Southwest 123rd Court and 104th Terrace, where a welfare check on Tuesday revealed his lifeless body. A 911 police radio transmission indicated that the friend, upon arriving at the house, discovered Torres covered in blood, possibly deceased, with the dog exhibiting suspicious behavior.
While initial reports suggest the cause of death may be attributed to dog bites, the official determination rests with the Medical Examiner’s Office, pending further investigation by authorities.
A family member shared with CBS News Miami’s Peter D’Oench that Torres, who recently celebrated his 29th birthday, faced physical limitations affecting his mobility. The family emphasized Torres’s positive character, expressing deep sadness over the tragic incident. They noted he had owned the medium-sized, mixed-breed dog for several years.
Neighbor Raisa Pereda, shocked by the news, commented, “This is incredible. I can’t believe it. It is very very sad.” Pereda, who had occasionally interacted with Torres and the dog, described him as a good person with no apparent issues with the canine companion. She mentioned noticing Torres’s difficulties walking but had never observed any concerning behavior from the dog.
The animal involved, identified as a large brown brindle/white male terrier mix, has been taken into custody by Animal Services. Detective Andre Martin of the Miami-Dade Police assured, “Animal Services did arrive here and took the dog into custody and thankfully took it to Animal Services headquarters.”
As the investigation unfolds, both law enforcement and Animal Services are withholding further comments, emphasizing the ongoing nature of the inquiry and the need for confirmation regarding the dog’s involvement in the tragic incident.
