In a heartwarming rescue operation, members of the Westminster Fire Department successfully saved a beagle named “Harvey” after the canine became trapped inside a drainage pipe at the Little Dry Creek Dog Park.
The incident unfolded when Westminster PD Animal Management officers responded to a distress call reporting a dog stuck in a drainage pipe at the dog park. Assessing the situation, the officers realized that the dog, later identified as Harvey, was unable to extricate itself.
Recognizing the need for specialized assistance, Westminster PD Animal Management officers reached out to the Westminster Fire Department for support. A rescue crew member, equipped with a cold-water suit, promptly arrived at the scene.
The firefighter entered the creek, anticipating that the dog might exit the pipe creek-side and fall into the freezing water. Despite their efforts, the firefighter was unable to physically reach the trapped beagle. Undeterred, the rescue crew devised an innovative solution by using an air bottle to agitate the pipe, coaxing Harvey out of his predicament.
Ultimately, Harvey emerged from the drainage pipe, safe and sound. The dog was joyfully reunited with its owner, who expressed immense gratitude for the collaborative efforts of the rescue crew.
This heartening rescue serves as a testament to the dedication and quick thinking of the Westminster Fire Department and Animal Management officers in ensuring the safety and well-being of our four-legged friends.
