Singapore’s Law and Home Affairs Minister, K Shanmugam, recently revealed a more compassionate side of himself by sharing that his family has expanded with the adoption of three dogs, including one with a single eye. This heartwarming decision follows the loss of his golden retriever, Samson, in December 2022, who was put down due to old age.
Originally planning to welcome “one or two” furry friends into their home, the minister ended up adopting three dogs, making him the proud father of four canine companions.
In a TikTok video shared on Saturday (13 Jan), Mr. Shanmugam introduced his new addition, a one-eyed dog named Princess, explaining that they welcomed her into their family a few months after Samson’s passing.
Reflecting on the loss of Samson, a rescue dog who had been with the family for eight years, Mr. Shanmugam acknowledged that they did not plan to adopt multiple dogs at once. Their initial intention was to find “one or two dogs” when they visited the shelter, but fate led them to bring home three.
Explaining the choice of adopting Princess, Mr. Shanmugam shared that she had recently lost her eye and had just been moved to the shelter, appearing disoriented and receiving less attention than other dogs. Expressing sympathy for her situation, he noted, “She was very scared about everything. Poor thing really.”
Motivated by a desire to offer Princess a brighter future, the family decided to bring her home and provide her with the love and care she deserves. This unexpected adoption showcases Minister Shanmugam’s compassionate approach to animal welfare and highlights the joy that these newfound furry family members bring to his household.
