The unsettling case involving a Miamisburg High School student who was reported to have stabbed a deceased dog has been officially closed by Miamisburg police due to a lack of evidence suggesting criminal activity, according to police reports.
Initially closed, the case was later reopened following the emergence of additional information. However, in a recent statement released late Wednesday, authorities declared that all known leads had been thoroughly pursued, and no clear indication of a criminal offense had been uncovered, despite the disconcerting nature of the incident.
Police reiterated their commitment to conducting a full investigation if any new information comes to light that points toward a potential criminal offense in this matter.
The incident was first brought to the attention of authorities on August 20 when a tipster reported a video posted on the social media app Snapchat depicting someone stabbing a dog. The tipster provided information about the location of the dog’s corpse, leading police to discover it in a dumpster. The canine displayed two stab wounds in the chest area and one near the upper chest/lower neck region.
During the course of the investigation, a teenager was questioned about the video. The teen explained that a former student had accidentally struck the dog with a vehicle, witnessing it crawl to the side of the road before succumbing to its injuries. Subsequently, the former student’s friends retrieved the deceased canine, placing it in the vehicle’s trunk, reportedly motivated by a misguided sense of humor.
The closure of this case underscores the challenges law enforcement faces when determining criminal intent in complex situations like this one. Authorities have emphasized their readiness to investigate any new information that may come to light in the future.
