In a distressing turn of events, a 66-year-old man lost his life after being attacked by his dog at his residence in southern Tasmania. The tragic incident unfolded at the Allens Rivulet property, where a 64-year-old woman also sustained serious injuries.
On the night of Sunday, emergency services and the police were summoned to the scene following a report of a dog attack that took place at approximately 10:40 pm. The man, who was 66 years old, suffered severe injuries to his lower legs, and regrettably, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The 64-year-old woman, who was also involved in the incident, was swiftly transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital with serious injuries to her legs. This heartbreaking incident has undoubtedly left the community in shock and mourning.
Inspector Colin Riley of the Tasmania Police expressed condolences, stating, “Our thoughts are with the man’s loved ones at this difficult time.” The distressing episode prompted the humane euthanization of the dog at the scene by an animal management officer from the local council.
