Cincinnati, OH — Cincinnati’s solitary animal shelter, Cincinnati Animal Care, has made the decision to temporarily halt all dog-related services, including dog adoptions, in response to a surge in cases displaying symptoms of upper respiratory infections among dogs.
The decision to pause dog operations was announced via a Facebook post by members of the Cincinnati Animal Care team. The team’s observations of the concerning trend were made over the weekend, prompting them to reach out to the community for assistance in curbing the influx of animals into the shelter, even including stray animals.
In their statement, they emphasized, “Out of an abundance of caution, we will be briefly pausing all dog operations for the general public while we await test results. We do not want to cause alarm, but with a high volume of unvaccinated stray dogs coming into the shelter, we don’t want to take any unnecessary risks with our population and our community.”
This precautionary measure has been taken to ensure the safety of the shelter’s resident dogs and the broader community, particularly as the shelter grapples with the challenges posed by unvaccinated stray dogs. Cincinnati Animal Care will continue to closely monitor the situation, with operations resuming once the test results are available and the safety of both the shelter’s population and the community is assured.
