A Calgary family is facing a distressing situation as their beloved dog and pickup truck were stolen on Wednesday morning, leaving them anxiously searching for their four-legged family member, Rosco, and their 2013 Toyota Tundra.
The incident occurred in the southwest neighborhood of Lakeview at approximately 10:50 a.m. The family briefly went inside their home, leaving Rosco, a four-year-old German shepherd, inside the vehicle. In that brief moment, someone took off with the truck, leaving the family in shock and anguish.
The theft was captured by a doorbell camera, revealing a purple Toyota car that the family suspects was used by the culprits. Rosco, a 95-pound (43 kg) German shepherd, has a beige coat with a black muzzle and wears a distinctive red collar.
The family promptly reported the theft to the police, but as of now, there is no sign of Rosco or their missing truck.
Recalling the heart-wrenching moment, Craig Johns, a family member, shared, “I unfortunately went out. I was going out for the day and I went to come in the house to get my wallet. And I heard my truck pulling away, and the dog was in the vehicle. And when I ran out to chase the vehicle, I couldn’t — I couldn’t get it in time.”
The family’s plea is straightforward – they desperately want Rosco back. They have turned to social media, spreading the word far and wide in the hopes of reuniting with their cherished pet. The truck, in their eyes, is secondary; their primary concern is the well-being of their dog.
Gavin, the family’s son, expressed the deep bond they share with Rosco, saying, “Whenever I’m in my sad moments, I always go to him and hug him.”
The stolen vehicle is described as grey with Alberta license plate VAK510. The family, together with the community, remains hopeful that their beloved pet will be safely returned, and they urge anyone with information to come forward to assist in reuniting them with Rosco.
